party like it's 1999

Thursday, October 15, 2009 |

My mom just developed a 10-year old roll of film. The first few and last few frames were ruined by the passage of time, but a few in the middle prove that it was taken with my sister’s camera, and I am the main subject.

What I can tell you about me, circa 1999:

I was 15 years old.

I had VERY short (and clean) hair. Like a boy cut. I could show you, but then I’d have to kill you.

I was reading a library copy of The Lord of the Rings: Fellowship of the Ring. It’s next to me on the bed in the photo.

I was dressing up the (long-suffering) cat. Dark green doll cape + cat = obviously a hobbit.

I had very questionable taste in clothes.

I didn’t like to smile for the camera.

I wore sparkly white nail polish.

And…I was a HUGE dork.

Don’t get me wrong – I was a happy. And a jock and a nerd. But still a dork. Eeek!

This sounds fun! I love the sparkly white nail polish!
I wish I could find some old undeveloped film!

I would love to find a runaway roll of film from 10 years ago. I would be almost 17. Aahhh...so glad I'm not there now...

Oh God, 10 years ago I was 21. That was a good year for me :) but age 15, I'd hate to find pictures of that.

Oh goodness! 10 years ago I was 23! Dang I looked good then :)

But I feel you! 15 is never a kind age.

How fun. I wish you would show us the pictures though.

Haha! With a newfound interest in Lord of the Rings, this is brilliant. :)

I love finding old film. You never know what you're going to find. It's still hard to believe 1999 was ten years ago. Around this time way back then everyone seemed worried about Y2K.

Aw, I can just picture you! I love looking back on old photos and thinking, wow, I was SUCH a dork. ie. Phew, not anymore! Not outwardly, at least. Inwardly I'm as dorky as ever :D

PS. We're the same age!

Well, if it will help... I am sure we all have those photos that should never have been developed. Sounds like a great picture for a memory.

Only a true book nerd would dress up their cat as a hobbit! What a great trip back in time!

What a great find! Pictures please. Everyone has had an awkward stage they went thru -- some lasted longer than others. I was well liked, but never cool. On my other blog we were talking about HS and college teachers--so fun to think about the good ol' days, but maybe that wasn't so long ago for you.

That's excellent! I kind of wish my mother had kept an undeveloped roll of film so I could have the same experience. I have photos of myself at 12 with a total boy haircut, maybe it's something every girl has to go through.
