blog anniversary giveaway

Wednesday, March 31, 2010 |
On April 12th, I’ll have been blogging for one year. That’s a year’s worth of silly stories, books and reviews, baking and (even and/or especially) zombies. I started the blog as a challenge to myself to add something ‘good’ to my life after the Lenten season. So my blog was born on Easter Sunday, and I wrote about coffee. I think I meant to make this blog more coffee-centered way back when, but I’ve drifted strongly into book territory. And on that note, I’d like to announce…

My first blog anniversary giveaway!

Two lucky winners will walk away with either a $30 Amazon giftcard or $30 to spend at Book Depository.

[awesome coffee cup artwork found here]

Leave a comment on this post telling me a topic you’d like to see me write about on the blog in the next year. One extra entry granted if your suggestion makes me smile or laugh.

Please include your email address or another method of contact. Giveaway is open internationally. Comments will close on April 12 at 11:59pm EST, and I will notify the randomly selected winners via email.

Good luck!

Cool contest!

A topic?
Hmmmm...how about more recipes and a link to all your recipes?

Happy Anniversary, that is very exciting! As for topics, something that has been on my mind lately is the "nice-guy" vs "bad-boy" debate...it'd be fun to read a post comparing the two.

Fantastic contest! Congrats on the anniversary!

I would love to read more posts on a topic that has been dear to my heart lately. I would love to see posts about what visiting an fictional location would be like. Would the yellow brick road be as hard to walk on as it sounds like? Would you trip over all the unleveld bricks? Would you be able to swim in the footprints left by the residents of Dinotopia? Those are the type of questions I would love a blogger to answer. You have a wonderful imagination so I think you would be great at it.

Congratulations on one year!

As for a topic, here's something I was recently thinking about for myself: Think of an author or genre that's really out of the box as far as your usual reading fare. Do a pre-reading post about the book/author/genre predictions and then post afterwards about if you enjoyed the read or not and how your pre-conceived notions held up (or didn't).

Sara said...

I love to read about people's favorites, so maybe posts about your favorite books, authors, fictional crushes, etc. :)

Great contest btw!

Hmm, coffee huh? How about the craziest coffees. . . ever. Like the poop coffee. . . you know? I'm not making that up. I hope you've heard of it too because otherwise I'd feel like a creepy, disgusting 5 year old boy. Crap. Oh, oh, oh, you could do a taste test of all the craziest coffee you can find, and, I don't know, compare them in exceptionally eloquent ways. Yeah, that's my idea.

Happy Blogaversary!

How about random childhood memories, like something you did to get in trouble, an embarrassing moment, etc.

I'll give you a funny childhood story of mine in an attempt to make you giggle for a sec.

When I was 6 or so, my mom and sister teased me about my hairy arms (evil wenches...). So one night as I was in the bath, I decided to shave 'em bald.

Well, being 6 and not knowing how to use the razor, I cut the )(#*$)#(*@! out of my arms. In no time they were bleeding from elbow to wrist, and I began to bawl.

Hearing my sobbing, my mom ran into the bathroom, and found me, naked-armed and bleeding. Wide-eyed, she asked me what had happened. Between sobs, I lied, "The razor FELLLLLLLLLLL! It FELLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLL!" lol

Ooo I vote for Ryan G's topic! Or why coffe is so great. What goes best with it? Food, a book, conversation. I'm thinking there should be a Great Debate of Tea vs. Coffee. After all, clearly tea must be better since it's an effictive means of protest ;)

And of course I love your reviews :)

I think it would be hilarious to take some of your fav YA heroes or heroines and kind of do a yearbook kind of post where you give them titles like "Most likely to Succeed"... and then maybe do a "20 yrs later" update where you what think they might ended up like. Could be lots of fun!

Happy Bloggiversary! How fun! You have some GREAT suggestions here. I give a vote to Tynga--Rabid fox--and Booklover 1335.

How about "a day in the life" (or adventures/unlucky events) of Cecelia Bedelia--describe your "perfect day". Maybe how the perfect things didn't turn out perfect like you thought they would. Since there would be no constraints whatsoever, even time, you could squeeze as much as you want in the 24 hours. (Queen Bee)

How about a topic that is near and dear to the hearts of many of us, especially YA readers. Blood Sucking, sparkling, vegetarian vampires. Ok, any vampires. Maybe write about why women, especially young girls, love these vamps so much. What is the attraction? Do they wish THEY could be turned into a vampire or just admire them from afar?

Movie Reviews! Think about it. You can post pictures of hot guys and then rate the movie - particularly awesome if they're based on a book.

OK, I haven't read what everyone else has written (although I read a couple, and I think recipes, polls and movie reviews are great ideas - esp movie reviews of movies based on books), but it's hard to just suggest one topic for someone.

I mean, what are your other interests? One blog I read is by an author who usually posts about her writing process, but she also loves antique clothes and really eclectic music, so occasionally she'll post about that. Not stuff I'd normally be interested in - esp the music - but it's interesting reading her posts, because SHE'S passionate about them.

So do you have any weird or eclectic hobbies? Do you design baby bobble caps? Give your cat whisker-extensions? Paint your own pottery? Even something mundane like going to the gym can be interesting if told with passion and if you give a different personal perspective on it. :)

I would love to hear stories about cooking experiments gone wrong and other kitchen related disasters you've experienced.

Ex: Accidently flambe-ing your hair.

Discovering that grape jelly and pina colada mix don't make a good smoothie. (Don't even ask how I know that.)

Forgetting that can of soda you put in the freezer to get cold. (Let's face it, we've all done it.)

Realizing that getting up in the middle of the night to cook bacon in your undies, though it seemed like it at the time, wasn't such a smart idea.

Thanks for this terrific contest and congrats on your blogoversary!
