teaser tuesday (40)

Tuesday, June 8, 2010 |
It's Teaser Tuesday, a bookish blog meme hosted by MizB of Should Be Reading. Here's how it works:

Grab your current read and let it fall open to a random page. Post two (or more) sentences from that page, along with the title and author. Don’t give anything vital away!

“‘Midas?’

‘Yes?’

‘I don’t want to talk about it.’

‘Sorry.’

She shrugged. She clapped her hands together. ‘Right then. Let’s eat these fishcakes.’”

-p. 49 of Ali Shaw’s The Girl with Glass Feet

Great teaser. I must say the title of the book is a good teaser in itself.

I want to know how fishcakes taste...

My teaser is a great action-adventure with a "Da Vinci Code" flavor, with its religious plot twist (The Dead Sea Scrolls Project). It's "The Eighth Scroll," and it's a great page-turner, with lots of plot twists. Plus -- it's a clean read: no bad language no sex scenes, just good, clean, compelling fun. (It's the kind of book you can envision having as an audiobook on a family vacation because everyone can listen to it!)

[[Quickly, he returned to his task and forced a gold ring-face from between the tightly flexed fingers. Unmistakably a treasure of antiquity, the raised symbols of the gold oval shone with the whisper of greatness that, since the dawn of their profession, had drawn people like Frank and him to explore the mysteries of the past. This is veeery interesting, he thought. As the words crossed his mind, he smiled, for he recognized the echo of the same words that had brought him running to this side of the earth.]]

Ali Shaw is brill.

At my school we used to have fishcakes for school dinners every Friday (Ali Shaw is British, so she might well have done too). Fishcakes are less brill :)

Anyway! My teaser's at http://hampshireflyer.wordpress.com/2010/06/08/teaser-tuesday-16/

eating is a good way to avoid conversation . . . fun teaser today.

Wonder what she doesn't want to talk about. And I have to agree with Kaye, it's tough to talk to much if the food's good.

Sometimes I wish friends and others would move on that fast from something I don't want to talk about. :) Great teaser.

If you would like to stop by I did a teaser as well this week...
